“I owe it all to AK Streaking Grime.” Says Josh for this weeks customer edition of Thursday Hobby Focus. Let’s take a look at his smelly boys…
“After reading The Buried Dagger book for Horus Heresy, I wanted to make a Death Guard army for the tabletop game when it came out in 2022 and since then have enjoyed adding more units to the growing army from Infantry to Tanks to finally getting Mortarion. When it came to painting scheme I looked at the Horus Heresy Traitor book and looked at the different schemes used for Death Guard and went with the commonly used one, with wraithbone as the majority of the armour, and green on the shoulders and knees, while also using runelord brass for the trim. I changed things up with the Heavy Infantry and specific units, for example, the Heavy Infantry shoulders were given a green trim, and I did the shoulders in wraithbone. My favourite model I have painted has to be Mortarion with the Kratos Heavy Tank coming in a very close second.” Josh says, while tightly cradling a pot of AK muddy ground…
“I wanted to give my Death Guard a grimy, dirty look that fits their theme, but I genuinely struggled for a while to find a way to make them look the way I wanted, until I discovered AK and began using their technical and terrain paints, which gave me the look I wanted. I based my army going through muddy terrain which has been bombed by the Death Guard with their chemicals, giving us the green goo on the bases.” Josh exclaims as he drinks a shot of Streaking Grime…
Mortarion, the grim Primarch of the Death Guard Legion in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, was one of the genetically engineered sons of the Emperor of Mankind. Born on the toxic, plague-ridden planet of Barbarus, Mortarion endured a brutal childhood. Barbarus was shrouded in poisonous mists and dominated by powerful warlords who could survive its deadly atmosphere. Mortarion was adopted by one of these warlords, who raised him with a mix of cruelty and respect for his toughness. Mortarion grew up with a fierce hatred for oppression, especially for beings who wielded unnatural powers over the weak.
“The army is a mix of GW, Forge World and 3d printed parts and I would like to add more Infantry to the army with a mix of Line Infantry and also more Heavy Squads since Death Guard enjoy Heavy Squads (Volkite 50 dice are always fun…ish) but I can never say no to having more Tanks and Dreadnoughts. Someday I would like to have some Siege Of Terra Death Guard who just became all Nurgle smelly, but thats for later on down the road.”
